Hi! My name is Tamar. I live in Venice, Italy.

We used to live in Israel but we moved here when I was two months old to teach the Jews in Venice more about Judaism. Venice is an unusual city built on water! I go to school by boat every day and there are only two students on my class. One of them is – me!

Mendy of Siberia

מנדי מסיביר

Hi! My name is Mendel and I’m five years old. I live in Siberia, an area in Russia. It’s FREEZING here! Every time I leave my house I need to put on many layers of clothing. Winter lasts more than half the year! But don’t feel bad for me. I love sledding down snowy hills and touring our special ice city where everything is built out of- you guessed it- ice! Most of all I love preparing for the holiday of Chanukkah when we warm up the frozen winter with our songs and our Chanukkah lights.

Motti of Paraguay

Hi! My name’s Motti and I’m nine years young. I live in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay. When I wake up in the morning and look outside my window, I see the water well in our yard and a bunch of chickens running around. In my free time, I like to drive pretend cars on real roads and I enjoy helping my mother to make homemade cheese.

Schneur of Chevron

מנדי מסיביר

Hellooooooo from Israel! My name’s Schneur. I’m nine years old and I live in Chevron — the city of our forefathers! On Chol Hamoed Sukkot I pray at Mearat Hamachpelah, I travel in a mobile sukkah to help the Jewish soldiers to perform the mitzvah of the arba minim, and my friends and I plan a Simchat Beit Hashoevah for the entire Avraham Avinu neighborhood!

Moshe of Japan

משה מיפן

Hi! My name is Moshe and I’m eight years old. Sounds pretty regular, doesn’t it? But I live in a very interesting place. I was born in the capital city of Japan – Tokyo! I don’t go to regular school. Instead I go to school on the computer with kids from all over the world. The classmate that lives closest to me lives in China, a five hour plane ride away!

Rivka of Thailand

רבקה'לה מתאילנד

Hi! My name’s Rivka, though my two-year-old sister calls me Icka. I’m eight years old. I was born in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. Thailand is a beautiful tropical country that millions of tourists come to visit every year. I love visiting the floating market, drinking coconut milk straight from the fruit, and visiting the nearby elephant farm. Our neighborhood is so crowded and busy that we have to leave our neighborhood with a tuk-tuk in order to find space to play jump rope. What’s a tuk-tuk? Well, I guess you’ll have to read inside to see!

Shaina of Norway

Hi! My name’s Shaina and I’m nine years old. I live in Oslo, the capital city of Norway. Here in Norway, in the summer, the sun never sets and the night is as bright as day. In the port near our house, fishermen sell their fish, especially the most famous fish in Norway — Norwegian salmon. Not far from there, you can see the spectacular fjords.

Today, my friend is visiting from a different country and we’re going on a fascinating journey: together we’ll visit the royal palace of Norway, pick berries and mushrooms in the forest, and exchange stories about being young lamplighters in different countries.

Mussia of Morocco

מנדי מסיביר

Hi everybody! My name is Mussia and I’m six years young. I live in the city of Casablanca in Morocco. Morocco is a Muslim country with a rich Jewish past. Our city, Casablanca, is a blend of the old and the new: On our street I see peddlers slowly pushing wagons full of merchandise side by side with fast-moving cars. Elderly women wearing traditional Djellabas, walk next to businessmen wearing fancy suits.

Today we’ll join my father on a journey to Marrakesh; we’ll tour the mellah — the old Jewish quarter; we’ll buy spices at the market in honor of Shabbat; and we’ll ride camels at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.

Chanie of Wyoming

Seven-year-old Chanie lives out West in a picturesque town nestled in a valley, surrounded by tall mountains. From the windows in her house you can see cowboys riding their horses, leading their cattle to graze. And when she and her family go out hiking, they have to remember to take along their bear spray, in case they bump into a bear!

Join Chanie in a fun-filled day of Camp Gan Israel in Jackson, Wyoming.
